My Thesis Statement
Split Rock Lighthouse was built because a series of storms caused ship owners to petition for a lighthouse in the vicinity of Split Rock, and on July 31st, 1910, Split Rock Lighthouse was
lit for the first time. Split Rock Lighthouse was a turning point for the shipping industries of precious metals, wheat, and fish. The lighthouse warned the oncoming ships of the rocky North Shore ahead, which in turn allowed these industries to thrive. The lighthouse greatly increased tourism in the area and many nearby towns flourished.
